Elderly Health Care Vouchers

Using Elderly Health Care Vouchers for eye tests and glasses

Nini Optical accepts Health Care Vouchers from eligible elders towards applicable optometric services. This page sets out the parts of the Government's voucher scheme that apply to optometry, so you and your family know what to expect.

Can vouchers be used for glasses?

Vouchers can be used for optometric services, such as eye tests and eye examinations, provided by optometrists enrolled in the scheme. Under the scheme rules, vouchers cannot be used solely to purchase products, for example buying glasses without receiving an optometric service.

So the elder needs to be examined by the optometrist first. If glasses are needed after the examination, ask us what the vouchers can cover.

  2. Bring the identity card Bring the elder's original Hong Kong Identity Card, which is needed to process the vouchers.

  4. Confirm the amount We explain the fee and the voucher amount to be used first, and proceed only with the elder's consent.

Why regular eye tests matter for elders

With age, reading prescriptions change, and conditions such as cataract, glaucoma and macular degeneration become more common, often without obvious symptoms early on. Regular checks help find problems early. If something needs treatment, the optometrist will recommend a referral to an eye doctor.

Health Care Vouchers: frequently asked questions

Can I use vouchers just to buy glasses?

No. Under the scheme rules, vouchers cannot be used solely to purchase products such as glasses. They must be used for optometric services provided by an optometrist.

Is there a limit on using vouchers for eye tests?

Yes. The amount that can be spent on optometry services is capped at HK$2,000 every two years, and cannot exceed the balance in the elder's voucher account.

What do we need to bring?

The elder's original Hong Kong Identity Card. The elder needs to attend in person for the examination and agree to the use of the vouchers.

Do we need an appointment?

We recommend one. Ask us on WhatsApp or by phone which services apply, then book a one-to-one slot.

This page gives general eye care information. It does not replace an examination and personal advice from an optometrist or doctor.
